Shear diversity prevents collective synchronization.

چکیده
Large ensembles of heterogeneous oscillators often exhibit collective synchronization as a result of mutual interactions. If the oscillators have distributed natural frequencies and common shear (or nonisochronicity), the transition from incoherence to collective synchronization is known to occur at large enough values of the coupling strength. However, here we demonstrate that shear diversity cannot be counterbalanced by diffusive coupling leading to synchronization. We present the first analytical results for the Kuramoto model with distributed shear and show that the onset of collective synchronization is impossible if the width of the shear distribution exceeds a precise threshold.

Collective synchronization in the presence of reactive coupling and shear diversity.
We analyze the synchronization dynamics of a model obtained from the phase reduction of the mean-field complex Ginzburg-Landau equation with heterogeneity. We present exact results that uncover the role of dissipative and reactive couplings on the synchronization transition when shears and natural frequencies are independently distributed. As it occurs in the purely dissipative case, an excess ...
متن کاملChaotic Clustering: Fragmentary Synchronization of Fractal Waves
Chaotic neural networks seized attention of scientists from various points of view due to the amazing effects they produce. Phenomenology of structure formation in nature inspired scholars to mimic complex and with the same time quasi-optimal solutions to generate artificial systems with similar capabilities. One of the dominant ways to provide collective dynamics of previously unordered elemen...
متن کاملThe Micro Dynamics of Collective Violence
Collective violence in direct confrontations between two opposing groups happens in short bursts wherein small subgroups briefly attack small numbers of opponents, while the majority of participants forms a supportive audience. These bursts and subgroups’ small sizes are explained by Kuramoto’s synchronization model.
متن کاملPhase synchronization between collective rhythms of globally coupled oscillator groups: noiseless nonidentical case.
We theoretically study the synchronization between collective oscillations exhibited by two weakly interacting groups of nonidentical phase oscillators with internal and external global sinusoidal couplings of the groups. Coupled amplitude equations describing the collective oscillations of the oscillator groups are obtained by using the Ott-Antonsen ansatz, and then coupled phase equations for...
متن کاملFrom collective rhythm to adaptive synchronization
A novel viewpoint, i.e., adaptive synchronization, is proposed to explore collective rhythm observed in many complex, self-organizing systems. We show that a simple adaptive coupling is able to tip arrays of oscillators towards collective synchronization. Two arrays of simply coupled Hindmarsh-Rose chaotic neurons are used to illustrate cooperative dynamics of neural activity like the central p...
